Jan Dienstbier studied mathematical statistics at the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics, Charles University (Ph.D. 2011) and history of art at the Faculty of Arts, Charles University (Ph.D. 2018). Between 2009 and 2011, he worked as a researcher-pedagogue at the Technical University in Liberec and between 2016 and 2020 he was an assistant professor in the Medieval Studies program at the Faculty of Humanities, Charles University. Since 2016, he has been employed at IAH CAS as an investigator of various grant projects connected with medieval art (GAČR: Imago, imaginesImage/s in Přemyslid era: Contexts and Forms, Reflecting Jerusalem in Medieval Czech Lands; NAKI: The Image of the Enemy: Visual Manifestations of Antisemitism in the Czech Lands from the Middle Ages to the Present. Beginning in 2017, Dienstbier simultaneously works as an editor of Umění / Art journal. He specializes in medieval wall painting and iconography of medieval art.
