David Vrána studied history of Christian art at the Catholic Theological Faculty, Charles University (2008–2011) and art history at the Faculty of Arts, Charles University (2011–2014). From 2014 to 2015, he worked at the Photo Library at IAH CAS and since 2016, he has been a member of the Department of Documentation.

In 2016, Vrána was a co-investigator on the project Searching for provenance of movable cultural assets nationalised in 1945 from the citizens of German nationality in the region of northern Bohemia (NAKI) and an external participant in Imago, Imagines: Metamorphoses of their Function in the Medieval Bohemian Lands (GAČR). Between  2017 and 2018, he worked in the conservation studio, assisting in the treatment and processing of the seal collection. As part of the Epigraphica et Sepulcralia Centre, Vrána has been a long-term participant in the project to create a database of historical inscriptions (Program Memory in the Digital Age, Strategy AV 21).
