Lorraine Byrne Bodley – Aleš Březina – Anja Bunzel (eds.), Cross-Cultural Dialogues: Essays in Honour of Michael Beckerman, Prague: Artefactum – Karolinum 2026

This volume brings together 39 studies by scholars and artists addressing current issues in Czech, Central European, and Anglo-American music, literature, film, philosophy, and the visual arts from the sixteenth to the twenty-first centuries. Despite their broad geographical, chronological, and thematic scope, the individual chapters are linked by overarching concepts and a shared, often interdisciplinary methodology. Their common point of departure is the work of the eminent American musicologist Michael Beckerman, a leading expert on Czech musical culture. The book features a diverse group of contributors from different generations and geographical backgrounds, drawing on both Anglo-American and Czech research traditions. These varied perspectives are united by a commitment to fostering intercultural dialogue and connecting musicology with other disciplines.
